Call Open: SMART Marine Institute Research Bursaries 2023

The Marine Institute and the Strategic Marine Alliance for Research and Training (SMART) are offering up to 24 bursaries on dedicated FEAS surveys in 2023 on the Celtic Explorer and Tom Crean.

Bursaries are valued at a fixed rate of €95 per survey night and successful applicants will be fully integrated into the survey work programme and make an important contribution to achieving the survey goals. 

Deferred: Science@Sea 2023 Tom Crean Training Survey

A Science@Sea marine data collection training survey will take place on the 15th and 16th of February in Cork Harbour and its approaches.  The survey platform is the RV Tom Crean and learners will have the opportunity to stay aboard Europe’s newest research vessel for a truly immersive experience of offshore data collection and surveying.

This intensive training survey is aimed at postgraduate students of marine-related sciences, technologies, and engineering, as well as researchers, and marine oriented professionals and educators.

Two Science@Sea training surveys in multidisciplinary marine science will take place from the 14th to 17th of March in Cork Harbour and its approaches.

These intensive two-day CPD courses on the RV Celtic Voyager are aimed at postgraduate students of marine-related sciences, technologies and engineering, as well as researchers, and marine oriented professionals and educators.

Call Closed: Marine Institute SMART Research Vessel Bursaries 2020

In response to HSE Covid 19 public health advice bursaries will not be available on the WESPAS and UWTV surveys.  The availabity of bursaries on the Celtic Sea Herring Acoustic Survey and Irish Groundfish Surveys will be reviewed closer to the survey dates in line with HSE advice.

Call Closed: New Surveys Added: Training Through Research Surveys 2019

The 2019 call for applicants to take part in Training Through Research Surveys (TTRS)  is now open.  TTRS is a collaboration with the Marine Institute that increases national capacity in offshore marine research by offering training and mentoring for students of marine related sciences and technologies on research surveys on the national RVs, Celtic Explorer and RV Celtic Voyager.
