CE15003 Ocean Climate and Geology Sections: 25/02/2015 -03/03/2015

Dr Glenn Nolan of the Marine Institute is the chief scientist for this research survey which will investigate the relationships between hydrology, geology and bathymetry on the porcupine bank, Rockall and Hatton Banks to the west of Ireland and Scotland. Sampling will take place between 30 degrees west and Galway and utilise CTDs, ADCP, Vessel Underway Data Acquisition, grabs and cores. Data collected will form part of a time series on water mass transportation and contribute to the ICES working group on Ocean Hydrography.

Applicants should have a confirmed research interest in oceanography, marine geology or a related theme. Applications will also be considered from researchers with an interest in marine megafauna. This call will close on Wednesday the 11th of February at 17:00 hrs.

This is an extensive survey with a high probability of challenging sea conditions and applicants should be able to demonstrate significant seagoing experience in their application. Embarkation and disembarkation will be from Galway. Successful applicants are liable for their own transportation and associated shore based accommodation costs.
