CE17004 Blue Whiting Acoustic Survey 2017

The closing date for applications to join remaining 2017 TTRS surveys is Friday the 14th April.

The blue whiting acoustic survey is an annual survey that forms part of the assessment of the spawning stock biomass of blue whiting in the North East Atlantic Ocean. International partners on this survey include the Faroe Islands, Norway, the Netherlands and Russia.  Celtic Explorer transects will be lead by Mr Graham Johnston of the Marine Institute and take place in deep waters to the west and north of Ireland.  In 2017 the survey will run from the 18th of March to the 7th April embarking and disembarking at Galway. 

This is a tremendous opportunity for post graduate students wishing to gain experience in marine data collection. Applications are invited from graduate and postgraduates wishing to develop a career in fisheries science. There may also be opportunities for the collection of hydrographic samples and data within the survey schedule.

Requirements

To be considered eligible to take part in this survey applicants should be able to demonstrate significant seagoing experience and be in possession of a current ENG 11 medical certificate and a personal survival techniques training (PST STCW 95) certificate.  Eng11 Medical certificates must be renewed every two years and PST certification must have obtained within the last five years.
