A Marine Science and Technology Partnership Programme for the island of Ireland

2022 Celtic Sea Herring Acoustic Survey (CSHAS)

This survey contributes to a time series used to track the biomass and abundance of herring in the Celtic Sea and informs stock assessments by ICES expert groups. Mr Ciaran O’Donnell will lead an experienced team of biologists from the Marine Institute on survey transects deploying a pelagic trawl to ground truth echo traces of herring and other pelagic species.

The survey will take place from the 7th to 27th of October.

The Celtic Sea Herring Acoustic Survey is an excellent opportunity for graduates and postgraduate students who wish to develop field skills and careers in fisheries science, marine mammal and seabird data collection.
